SUSTAINABILITY

Skyroad takes no sides in the discussion of whether we are in a world of climate change, or not. Since 2020 we have offered net zero carbon options to clients through QANTAS Future Planet.

THE ROAD TO ZERO 2020

We know it's hard. Especially in Australia with our long distances and possibly the hardest road transport tasking in the world. But hard became easy on 01 January 2020 when we offered the option of Net Zero Carbon for customers.

REDUCED EMISSIONS

Before any offsetting, we strived to reduce our emissions. Euro 6 trucks that reduce emissions by over 40% and carbon intensity by more than 6% versus Euro 5. New trailer designs. Optimised loading and unloading strategies. At our best we've reduced carbon intensity by as much as 47% by combining the optimum application of all these initiatives.

OUR FUTURE PLANET

Skyroad has partnered with QANTAS Future Planet to offset our residual Carbon Emissions for our customers who choose to be part of the Net Zero Carbon journey. Our offsets provide wind renewable energy projects in subcontinental Asia, and rainforest rehabilitation in South America. We're proud we're partnering in climate protection for the right reasons.

THE SEATTLE PROJECT CASE STUDY

In 2020 we partnered with UPS, Kenworth and Cummins to bring a special fleet to their time critical network. We reduced carbon intensity by 23.5% versus the prior industry standard solution. With the remaining carbon being fully offset.

ADVANCED CUMMINS DRIVETRAINS

Kenworth and Cummins offered Skyroad Euro 6 emissions well before its release in Australia. Computer mission simulations allowed us to use their Integrated Power drivetrain with downspeeding resulting in better than 17.5% reduced fuel consumption. Our real life fuel economy results were within 3% of the simulations.

CUMMINS PATH TO HYDROGEN

Skyroad has been operating the next generation of fuel agnostic Cummins engine in a special engineering evaluation truck in our road feeder services fleet. While running on diesel until now, this engine (with some hardware changes) offers options such as hydrogen combustion at around 98% carbon reduction versus diesel.
